RIGHTS CONFFERED BY EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">F<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">REEDOM OF MOVEMENT AND THE RIGHT OF RESIDENCE WITHIN THE TERRITORY OF THE MEMBER STATES<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">European citizenship gives you the right to cross the borders of the Member States without a visa<\/span>,\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">customs control and without a passport<\/span>,\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">only with an identity card.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">R<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">IGHT TO VOTE AND STAND AS A CANDIDATE AT ELECTIONS TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND AT MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN THE MEMBER STATE OF RESIDENCE<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Every Bulgarian citizen has the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">right to vote and stand as a candidate at elections to the European Parliament and at municipal elections<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0in the Member State in which he or she resides<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">,\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">under the same conditions as nationals of that State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">RIGHT OF DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR PROTECTION<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0IN THE TERRITORY OF A THIRD COUNTRY \/NOT AN EU MEMBER\/<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Every Bulgarian citizen shall, in the territory of a third country in which Bulgaria is not represented, be entitled to protection by the diplomatic or consular authorities of any Member State, on the same conditions as the nationals of that Member State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">R<\/span><span lang=\"EN\">IGHT OF PETITION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Petitions are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">a way to initiate and participate in discussions on determining Community policies of the EU<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">an instrument for direct public involvement in the process of forming and implementing European policies<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">means for carrying out out-of-court control on the European institutions<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">a written appeal, addressed to the Committee of Petitions of the European Parliament<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">RIGHT TO REFER TO THE EUROPEAN OMBUDSMAN<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Any Bulgarian citizen or legal person has the right to refer to the Ombudsman of the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Important:\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-US\">Complaints, concerning the work of Bulgarian institutions must be directed to the Bulgarian Ombudsman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">RIGHT TO WRITE TO THE INSTITUTIONS OF THE UNION IN ONE OF THE LANGUAGES OF THE TREATIES AND HAVE AN ANSWER IN THE SAME LANGUAGE<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">European citizenship gives you the right to write to the institutions of the Union in Bulgarian and ask for information about any matter, concerning to the activity of the EU.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">RIGHT OF JUDICIAL PROTECTION BY THE COURT OF JUSTICE OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">RIGHTS CONFERRED BY THE MUTUAL RECOGNITION OF COURT DECISIONS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The principle of mutual recognition of court decisions gives you the opportunity to benefit from the adoption of the decisions of the Bulgarian Courts by the courts of the Member States of the EU and vice versa.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROCESS OF FORMING EUROPEAN POLICIES<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">As an EU citizen you can participate in the policy-forming process through:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The European Economic and Social Committee<\/span><span lang=\"EN-AU\">\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">Committee of the Regions<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The European Parliament<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The National Parliaments<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">JOB OPPORTINITIES IN THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">If you wish to apply for a job in an European institution you must be aware of the following principles:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">In<\/span>\u00a02003\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The European Personnel Selection Office was established for recruiting of staff for the EU institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">The general requirements for the successful candidate are: to be an EU citizen and to speak fluently at least two of the official languages of the EU. SOCIAL RIGHTS<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Right of healthy and safe working conditions<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Right of healthcare<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Right of education and study<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Right of social security<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\">Retirement rights<\/span><\/p>\n<p><u><span lang=\"EN-US\">IV<\/span><span lang=\"RU\">.\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">RIGHTS CONFERRED BY THE COHESION POLICY<\/span><\/u><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The EU citizenship provides full access to financial instruments which guarantee successful implementation of the cohesion policy<\/span>.<span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0Bulgarian citizens and legal persons have the opportunity to benefit from the EU financial resources through the Structural funds, the Cohesion fund and other financial instruments of the Union.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\">DUTIES<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\">There are no clearly defined duties, conferred by the EU citizenship: there is no obligatory military or civil service, there is not even an European tax.
