Overall objective
The overall objective of the project is the protection of NATURA 2000 and other protected areas from natural hazards through a certified framework for education, training and support of CPV on a joint CB basis
Specific objectives
1) the establishment of successful interoperability between NSEA (Greece) and MARITZA (Bulgaria);
2) the creation of a robust, certified and CB joint educational/training system for the CPV which deal with the management of natural disasters such as wildfires and floods`;
3) the utilization of the involved structures’ scientific/technical tools and means by the trained/certified CPV during their operations;
4) the appropriate equipment of the trained and certified CPV via the involved structures;
5) the establishment of a joint CB approach on issues of environmental protection against natural disasters with the support of CPV.

Expected results
– the full scale operation of a joint, well trained and effective CPV based system for the conservation of NATURA 2000 sites and other protected areas of the CB area, as well as of civilians and properties against natural disasters (wildland fires/floods),
– the joint development of the NSEA and MARITZA structures based on scientifically/technically sophisticated solutions towards a concrete and sustainable CB network,
– the establishment of a common/certified CB training and support system targeting to environmental/biodiversity protection through the operation of the CPV,
– the enhancement of biodiversity and society resilience through promotion and reinforcement of civil protection volunteerism,
– the promotion of public’s awareness and active involvement in aspects of environmental/biodiversity protection and conservation and natural disaster impact management as well,
– the improvement of the operational readiness, capacity and response levels amongst the involved CB communities and CPV,
– creation of synergies and joint operational procedures in the CB area dealing with biodiversity protection against natural disasters and civil protection decision making and managing,
– the sustainability of all project outcomes (educational/training system, scientific/technical solutions, equipment, dissemination and network building) by viably putting into action all produced mechanisms, procedures and tools.
